Got this meme from [livejournal.com profile] modernelegance, who is a true artist with gifs. I am not a true artist with gifs -- in truth, I can barely get them to work. But with her encouragement, I'm going to give it another try. Meme (with gifs) under the cut!

Here goes nothing . . . )

Let me start by apologizing to any pit bull owners among you.

. . . That said, I wish people would quit constantly posting photos of their pit bulls all over social media. I know why they do it, because one of my Facebook friends has spoken more than once about how the breed is just misunderstood and how pit bull owners are constantly trying to reshape public opinion. And even if she hadn't come right out and said it, I would have gotten a clue from the hashtags that people use when they do it (#lovemypit and #pitbullsofinstagram and so forth). And from the things they say in their posts: "Pits are the best! The sweetest! The cuddliest!"

But when you have a phobia, like I do about pit bulls, it's not pleasant to have people shoving it in your face all the time. Especially when they keep telling you, "Oh, it's really nice and sweet and you just misunderstand it!"

As Colonel Potter would say, horse hockey. They have a perfect right to promote their breed, of course. But I have the right to want their breed far, far, FAR away from me.

Oh, Radar

After all these years, you still make me laugh out loud. And I needed that laugh today.
litlover12: (M1)
I don't often do this, but [livejournal.com profile] impulsereader wrote me a story about Radar O'Reilly that I just had to share with you all. It's so sweet and lovely -- in a word, it's so Radar -- that I nearly cried. Go take a look! Whether you're a M*A*S*H viewer or not, you should be able to follow it, I think.

Actually, it was last week, but I just found out. To celebrate, a few of my favorite quotes (with a little help from IMDb and WikiQuote) . . .

Attention, all personnel! )

Eureka!

I just realized something: Radar O'Reilly is a hobbit.

No, really, he is. It just hit me a minute ago when I was using my Radar icon on a comment, and now I can't believe I never realized it before. Look at him. He's so little, and cute, and gentle, and . . . little. Hobbit. It couldn't be more obvious.

. . . Did we ever actually get a look at his feet?

Queensjoy at [livejournal.com profile] ogeecons  has promised that when the community hits 600 watchers (she's at 594 now), she'll do a round of icon and wallpaper requests. She covers a wide range of fandoms -- classic movies and actors, M*A*S*H, mysteries, Doctor Who, Chronicles of Narnia, and more -- and does beautiful work. The icon on this post is one of hers, as are several of my other icons. So if you're not already a watcher of hers, but you like any of those things, you might want to head on over and join!

An LJ meme

Thanks to gioiello for this one. If you'd like to do it, consider yourself tagged!

What is your LiveJournal username? How did you come up with it?

Litlover12. Stands for "literature lover," and the 12 stands for 1812, the year that Dickens, one of my three favorite authors, was born.

Funny thing is, when my best friend saw it, she thought it meant "a little over 12"! (For the record, I'm 34!)

Have you renamed before? If so, what were your old names? If you haven't renamed, what names would you want to rename to?

No. Maybe Dickensian or something else literary.

How much does your userinfo say about you?

Just enough!

How long have you been on LiveJournal?

Since March 24, 2009.

What is the longest amount of time you've gone without posting?

About a week and a half, I think.

On average, how many entries do you post per day? (Divide how many total entries you have by how many days you've been on LJ.)

You want me to do MATH? :-) If I did it right -- no guarantees -- every two days, on average.

What are your posts normally about?

Books, movies, TV shows, or music.

Is your LiveJournal friends only? Why or why not?

No. I don't post anything really private here, so it doesn't need to be.

Does your LiveJournal have an actual title or are you merely USER @ LiveJournal?

I wasn't creative enough to think of a title!

How long do you see yourself staying on LiveJournal?

I don't know . . . a while! I like it here. :-)

ABOUT YOUR FRIENDSLIST

How many people are on your friendslist, not counting private journals, media journals, etc?

36

Why do you choose to add a person to your friendslist?

If it looks like we have a lot in common.

Is your friendslist an actual list of people you consider friends, or more of a reading list?

I have some of each.

How often do you read your friendslist?

At least once or twice a day.

Do you use filters when viewing your friendslist?

No.

How much do you talk to people on your friendslist off of LiveJournal?

Hardly ever.

Do you do friends cuts? Why or why not?

No. Never had reason to. I have left a community or two, though.

Do you regularly participate in friending memes? If not, how do you normally find people to friend?

No. I find them in comment sections at other people's journals and communities.

How often do you add new friends to your friendslist?

Every once in a while.

Do your friends have to have things in common with you?

Yes.

ABOUT YOUR ICONS / USERPICS

How many userpics do you get maximum? How many of those slots do you actually use?

15. I use them all and wish I had room for more, but I like my free account too much!

Do you mostly use icons made by yourself or by others?

Mostly by others. I have no graphics skills at all. But occasionally I'll find a picture I like and just use it as an icon.

Do you have your own icon community? How often do you post in it?

No.

What fandoms are most frequently seen in your userpics?

Currently, Little Dorrit, White Collar, and political.

How do you find icons to use?

I do an LJ topic search, or ask permission to use someone's that I really like, or I request one (usually here).

How often do you upload new icons to use in your userpics?

Whenever I find one I love, and can persuade myself to clear out some of the old ones to make room!

Which of your userpics do you use the most?

I'm not certain, but I think probably my M*A*S*H one, my Blackadder one, my Psych one, and of course my default one from Little Dorrit.

Which of your userpics do you like the most?

I can't decide! I love them all! :-)

The old minimum number of userpics was three. Could you see yourself "surviving" on three userpics now?

If I had to. But I'd hate it.

What do your userpics say about you?

The same thing as my journal, I think -- that I love good books, good movies, and good TV.

Thanks to Nibs at Wickfield for this meme. I'm sure many of you have done it before, but if it's new to you and you'd like to try it, consider yourself tagged! Apologies for any unorthodox spacing; LJ is really acting up for me these days.

"List twelve characters from any fandom/literary source, and then answer the following questions." Make SURE that you list the characters BEFORE reading the questions!!!

  1. Sydney Carton (A Tale of Two Cities)
  2. Anne Shirley (the Anne of Green Gables series)
  3. Lord Peter Wimsey (the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries)
  4. Arthur Clennam (Little Dorrit)
  5. Sara Crewe (A Little Princess)
  6. Miss Betsey Trotwood (David Copperfield)
  7. Harriet Vane (the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries)
  8. Lily Bart (The House of Mirth)
  9. Father Tim Kavanaugh (the Mitford series)
  10. Adrian Monk (Monk)
  11. Radar (M*A*S*H)
  12. Archie Goodwin (the Nero Wolfe mysteries)

In which the above named have some strange adventures . . . )

"The Gun" may be the best Radar episode ever. I don't know which is cuter, drunk Radar or Colonel Potter tucking drunk Radar into bed.
litlover12: (M1)
How did I not know that Radar could play the piano!? Awesome! (Shut up, Hawkeye, he's doing just fine!)
