Great Expectations was my first Dickens too! Certainly, still one of my favorites. I know what you mean though about how it's not an "easy" fandom.

I posted about iconic literature awhile back. What would you say are Dickens' most iconic works? By iconic, I mean very famous to the point that most people have some familiarity with the story even if they haven't read the novel. But I also mean iconic in the sense of having some strong visual association with the era.

I'm looking for stories with strong visual icon status.

Oliver Twist would be a good example of this. We all have the picture of Oliver asking "Please, sir, I want some more" seared in our brains. But other than that, what would you say of Dickens' work is especially iconic?
