I don't even know how to describe it - there was this big book, big pages and thick too, with lots of stories in it, all kinds. The only other story I remember clearly was this bittersweet one about a tailor who made a woman's wedding dress and she only discovered many years later that he had been in love with her the whole time. The whole book had pen-and-ink illustrations, which only made "The Speckled Band" worse because they were very evocative. *shudder*
