Books, books, books!

Pretty much everyone else is doing a books post, so I figured I might as well join in. :-) Below (in chronological order of my reading them) are the books to which I gave five stars this year on Goodreads.

  • After America, Mark Steyn

  • Further Papers on Dante: His Heirs and His Ancestors, Dorothy L. Sayers

  • A Commonplace Book, Alec Guinness

  • A Positively Final Appearance, Alec Guinness

  • Something Other than God, Jennifer Fulwiler

  • Charles Dickens on Poverty, Charles Dickens, ed. Pete Orford

  • The Death of Ivan Ilych & Other Stories, Leo Tolstoy

  • Four Faultless Felons, G. K. Chesterton

  • Hot Water, P. G. Wodehouse

  • All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr

  • Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good, Jan Karon

  • Give War and Peace a Chance: Tolstoyan Wisdom for Troubled Times, Andrew D. Kaufman

  • My Sisters the Saints, Colleen Carroll Campbell

And the runners-up: the books to which I gave four stars.

  • The Complete Saki, Saki

  • Good Stuff: A Reminiscence of My Father, Cary Grant, Jennifer Grant

  • Dickensian Laughter, Malcolm Andrews

  • The Light in the Ruins, Chris Bohjalian

  • Uneasy Money, P. G. Wodehouse

  • Mozart, Paul Johnson

  • My Life in Middlemarch, Rebecca Mead

  • The Book of Jonah, Joshua Max Feldman

  • Theatre, W. Somerset Maugham

  • Sun Shine Down, Gillian Marchenko

  • Song of the Quarkbeast, Jasper Fforde

  • Hideout, Gordon Korman

  • Full Dark House, Christopher Fowler

  • Landline, Rainbow Rowell

  • The Water Room, Christopher Fowler

  • A Son at the Front, Edith Wharton

  • The Song of the Lark, Willa Cather

  • The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

  • The Things That Matter: What Seven Classic Novels Have to Say about the Stages of Life, Edward Mendelson

  • Bohemians, Bootleggers, Flappers, & Swells: The Best of Early Vanity Fair, ed. Graydon Carter

  • Fierce Convictions: The Extraordinary Life of Hannah More--Poet, Reformer, Abolitionist, Karen Swallow Prior

  • Dare Mighty Things: Mapping the Challenges of Leadership for Christian Women, Halee Gray Scott

  • The Moving Toyshop, Edmund Crispin

  • Lila, Marilynne Robinson

  • The Accidental Empress, Allison Pataki

  • The Eye of Zoltar, Jasper Fforde

I would link you to my Goodreads "Your Year in Books" page, but it's maddeningly incomplete. I don't know if it was a technical glitch or if they leave certain books out for reasons best known to themselves, but it drives me nuts!
