Book meme, day 5
13. Do you reread a lot? Why (not)? Name a book you have reread many times.
It would be easier to name a book I haven't reread many times! So instead I'll name the one I reread most recently, Mistress Pat by L. M. Montgomery. Special thanks to this sweet fanfic by
jobey_in_error for inspiring me to revisit the Pat books. (By "rereading" I don't mean cover-to-cover, just skipping around.) I don't know why anyone wouldn't reread books they love. It's like a visit with old friends.
14. What is the best book you’ve read in the past year?
Ooh. That's a tough one. I'll make it easier on myself and interpret that as "since January 1," but that's still a tough one. I think I'm going to go with The Paris Wife by Paula McLain, a fictionalized version of Hemingway's first marriage. McLain's writing was lovely and her characterization excellent. The book almost -- ALMOST -- inspired me to read Hemingway again, and that's pretty high praise.
15. Do you recommend books to other people? If you could force everyone you know to read one book, what would it be?
Constantly. And it would be a tie between The Weight of Glory and The Four Loves, both by C. S. Lewis. Each of them contains enough wisdom for several lifetimes.
