Scene from my piano lesson tonight

Teacher: I'm having a recital in May . . .

Me: o.0

Teacher . . . and I think you should play the Brahms (read: the most insanely difficult piece in my repertoire).

Me: *hides under piano*

*well, not really*

*but I wanted to*

Which piece of Brahms? :)

Rhapsody in G minor, op. 79 no. 2. I love it, but it's REALLY hard!

Have fun!

I'm a tragically hopeless piano player myself, so I'm really impressed (and jealous) when I learn that others can do it...

Definitely go for it. In my experience there's no better motivator to practice hard and well than a recital. My sense of fear and shame always makes me work harder than I had previously thought possible.

That would be awesome! You have until May (right? I am writing this on my cellie so i cannot see....) and if your teacher thinks you can do it, the goal is certainly attainable!

*giggle* Ah, May is plenty of time! ;)

AWESOME!

We want full video.

*runs*

Ha! Even if I still had a functioning video camera, I'd probably freeze in front of it! :-)

I know. I'm just teasing. This is so exciting! Do you have a piano at home to practice? Or do you only get to practice during your lesson time?

[identity profile] litlover12.livejournal.com 2012-01-04 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I have one. I'd be toast if I didn't. :-) No way I'd be ready with only once-a-week practice.

The funny thing is, my teacher no longer has one! He gave his piano to his son before he knew he was going to teach again. So now all he has is a keyboard. That took some getting used to!

Oh, wow!

Well, then. Get off the computer and go practice. I watched a bit of that piece on YouTube and nearly passed out. How do people DO that? I can't even imagine.

Just butting in to say your icon is the story of my life. :)

This one? What would we do without music, right?

I was going to give you the maker in case you want to snag it, but darnit, I somehow didn't mark it down. That's going to drive me nuts.

This one? What would we do without music, right?

Probably cry with boredom.

*looks at the comments, then runs off to YouTube to have a listen*

Wow.

[identity profile] litlover12.livejournal.com 2012-01-04 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can't play it like THAT! I've heard a couple of YouTube performances of it, and I'm not nearly as fast as that.

[identity profile] ever-maedhros.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Even if your playing doesn't sound anything like the audio in the YouTube videos, if you're playing it well enough for people to recognize it, you're good, in my book. :)

How exciting and terrifying! May is a long way away so you'll have lots of time to practice and gear yourself up to do it!
