Background: I somehow missed reading TKaM in school. I read it (and saw the film) as an adult. I loved both. But I don't have the lifelong attachment many people do.
I was reading an article on this and it made me sad. Assuming it was accurate, she never wanted this published? Apparently, her health is very poor now. Is she being pressured into this? Is she doing it only out financial need? Is she being taken advantage of in some way?
Because she's given so few interviews through the years, there didn't seem to be much information on what her thoughts and intentions actually were, and whether they changed through the years. But with someone so old and in poor health, it's hard to tell if any answer she gives now is really out of a full understanding of the situation.
The whole thing left me very uncomfortable.
She had the dream I always wanted - write one book, make it BRILLIANT, let it be a classic forevermore, and then... disappear!
It's hard to say, really, there are so many varying accounts. Some say she just recently found out it still existed, and decided to publish it; others are saying that she's too old to know what she's saying, and others are taking advantage of her. I wish it were easier to get at the truth!!
