Why do waltzes make me moody?

I can't figure this one out. I have this wonderful waltz CD that I love, with great waltzes from films and a few classical ones as well, but it always makes me melancholy. What is it about a waltz, anyway?

I'm intrigued! Don't think I've ever sat down and listen to a bunch of waltzes before, but it sounds great. I love those "best of" film score compilation CDs.
