The Sound of Music on the big screen

Saw it this evening (first time on the big screen!) and had a delightful time. Just two quick observations before I head off to bed:

(1) That movie will never get old.
(2) Christopher Plummer will NEVER stop being hot.

Bwahaha!!!!

... Accurate.

I loved watching it so much in the theater! The thing I picked up was that the Baroness is actually quite fabulous. As a child I always thought she was a villain and this time watching it she's really amazing, gorgeous, intelligent, and not vindictive. She was just caught in the crossfire...but she didn't hold onto him tight-fisted.

So true. She's a lot more un-likeable, and more pathetic, in the show, so obviously seeking the good life.

You know, I've heard people say that before -- and I could totally see it when Laura Benanti played her in the TV version, even though that was the Broadway show version of the character, who, as nuranar says, has worse motivations. Of course it didn't hurt that Benanti was a vastly better actress than Carrie Underwood!! She gave the character some depth and poignancy -- not to mention killer snarking skills. :-)

I still don't see it in the movie, though. For some reason, in the movie, she gives off a very insincere vibe to me. I don't know why exactly. Just an "eye of the beholder" thing, perhaps.

However, I do think her parting line to the Captain is very gracious and kind -- she's giving him her blessing to go to Maria. (And I love his startled reaction. Like the WHOLE WORLD couldn't see what was going on with you, sweetie. :-D )

And now I think I need to go find me a "Sound of Music" icon or two! :-)

(2) OH YES.

I'm grinning from ear to ear right now! Hear, hear! I'll never forget thinking Captain Von Trapp was a little repulsive when I saw the film as a kid, because he was intimidating. Then I saw it when I was grown and I just stared open-mouthed at him pretty much the entire time. How could I not remember how gorgeous this man was?! ;)

Glad you had a lovely time!

I know, right?? I think millions of girls have suddenly had that "Oh my gosh, Captain von Trapp is HOT!" moment. It's practically a rite of passage. :-D

I never thought if it that way, but you're right! It is a rite of passage into womanhood. :)
