Let's snark again like we did last summer

[livejournal.com profile] msantimacassar has most obligingly sent along some more snarking material: the fuller trailer for W.E. (And I do mean fuller. Hey Madonna, the trailer's not supposed to be movie-length itself!)

Still no sign of Bertie or Elizabeth that I can see. Wise choice. When you're trying to pretend that your lead characters are brave and heroic, you don't want to show the supporting characters who were being really brave and heroic. People might get mixed up.

The positive: The trailer soundtrack is quite lovely....

The Negative: Oh gosh, what is with the MELODRAMA! They are not the world's greatest lovers...at least save that for Antony and Cleopatra! Good grief, Madonna obviously wants to make her mark with British Royalty...but boy, she chose the wrong pair. Thankfully they left out Bertie and Elizabeth...that is what horrified me about the last trailer.

Oh, and please do not forget that if Edward didn't abdicate the throne, Britain would have been happily invaded by Nazi's...it's just lovely when nazi sympathizers and spies are made the heroes. Would love to see people do that with a couple from the South who used to be apart of the KKK. Lets glorify them while we're at it and make their love story the next Romeo and Juliet.

STUPID.

Somewhat related: did you catch the version of this story with Gillian Anderson? If so, any good?

Do you mean "Any Human Heart"? I watched some of it but didn't care for it. The "hero" was too self-centered for me. Dropped out before I got to Gillian's scenes.

Ah, ok. I was just curious.

Oh, wow! Glad I missed it, then.

Oh good, you got it! It is reeeally long... I feel as if I have seen enough of the movie already. Don't think I could handle 2 hours.

OMG they are so romantic and gave up everything to be together and lalalala it is so beautiful. Please make it stop!

Oh good grief, this is going to drive me nuts.

Part of me wants to see it to support Natalie Dormer (playing Elizabeth), and part of me wants to see it to snark at the screen and point out everything that is wrong. I almost lost my cool watching "The Other Boleyn Girl," and an opportunity like that doesn't come along very often...

Like modernelegance said, the soundtrack is lovely. At least Madge had the good sense to find a good composer.

I know what you mean. Part of me is yelling at Laurence Fox, "Hathaway, how could you!?"

(I'm a fan of "Inspector Lewis," for those who don't know the reference!)

Darn, I'll have to miss that piddle.
