The patron saint of chocolate
Sep. 11th, 2012 08:29 pmMy godchildren are going to grow up thinking that Milton Hershey was some sort of monumental world figure. I guess this is what happens when you live in Hershey, where everything from schools to libraries to hospitals to the town itself is named after the guy. When I was up there a couple of weeks ago, I saw some materials that the local librarian had given the kids about him, and today their mom texted that they'd been reading about him again during their homeschool lesson.
It seems kind of like growing up near Willy Wonka's factory. Only, hopefully, not quite as . . . dramatic. I could never get into that movie because the punishments seemed so wildly out of proportion to the crimes.
