A spoilery 'Frozen' discussion

I saw Frozen this evening and enjoyed it, for the most part. I wouldn't call it one of my favorite Disney movies, but it was cute and funny.
Those of you who've seen it, though -- what did you think of the Prince Hans twist? I'm still mulling it over, but I can't say I liked either the idea or the execution. (Perhaps I should note that I was spoiled going in; someone had already told me about the twist.) And I think it really would have bothered me as a child.
Yes, I realize it was trying to be more sensible and realistic than most Disney movies, with the "you can't really fall in love in a day" angle. I understand that. But, honestly . . . who goes to Disney movies looking for something sensible? And even when you do acknowledge that there's a lot to be said for being sensible -- I just thought that was an awfully drastic, even disturbing, way to do it.
For purposes of discussion, I declare the comment section a "Spoilers Allowed" zone. Proceed at your own risk!
