I was diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism today. Which of course put me in mind of a gruesome Peter Wimsey story in which a dastardly villain controlled his wife by taking away her thyroid medicine, till she was reduced to an almost animalistic state.

. . . Let's hope she just had a way worse case of it than I do!

I'm glad you were diagnosed, but yeah not the best story to associate your diagnosis with. :S

On the other hand at school this week everyone is hyper sensitive about our new security measures (in case of a lockdown) and I'm over here plotting thinking how the perp could logically get around them.

IDK. I think my mind goes to worst case scenario immediately.

ETA: I'm not glad about your diagnosis...as in "happy" but glad they found it so it could solve any other problems that it may be inflicting. :)

Oh yes, I'm happy too! Had a few freaky symptoms for a while there. I'm very thankful that's all it is!

Queens of the Worst-Case Scenario, that's us. ;-)

Whew, yes, that's a lovely association to be able to make! :/ As has been said, I'm sorry the diagnosis had to be made at all, but I am glad you have an answer and it's (presumably) very treatable. :)

I'm watching House (I know I'm many years late) and I'm convinced I have M.S.

Every symptom.

GO AWAY MEDICAL CRIME DRAMA!

Lockdown training is the worst. I felt sick every time wondering if I'd be brave enough to protect my kids if it came down to it. :(

Thanks! Yes, it's treatable! :-)

Aww! At least you know it's not lupus . . . :-)

:-P

Since my mom DOES have Lupus, that would actually be more reasonable.

Glad you have an answer -- hope it hasn't been tripping you up too badly or too long ♥ -- all the best for your treatment!

I LOVE that story. It is spectacularly gruesome… though I love the part where the wife is restored and lovely. It's like a fairy tale, only the ogres and evil sorcerer's and the princess's transformation is all rationalized. :)

Does she? Bummer. :-(

I can't remember exactly how the "It's not lupus" trope got started on "House." It was a potential diagnosis that kept getting mentioned and discarded in various cases, and at some point someone noticed that lupus was never the right diagnosis, and then it became a sort of catchphrase. (Until the inevitable day when it actually WAS lupus.)

That's just what it's like! Sayers loves to do that kind of thing. (And Lord Peter had such fun being the wizard, even though he complained about the clothes. :-) )

Yesterday I saw the one where it was.

Also I'm going to marry Kal Penn. :-P

… Now that you've brought me thinking back, yeah, the fairy tale angle was made VERY explicit and Lord Peter specifically framed his discussions that way. I may need to check out the omnibus again, it has apparently been awhile. :)

My best wishes for your health! ♥

On a less serious note: the Wimsey story you mentioned is one of my favourites. It's so brilliant... even if I agree, it's probably one of the most disgusting motives for crime ever. But so well written. Okay, I just love watching Wimsey save the day. ^_^
