Some time ago, when I was working at BreakPoint, they moved their website to a new host, in the process losing a bunch of old content. Other staffers and I worked to transfer as much of it as we could -- a slow and difficult process in which we couldn't save everything we wanted to. I started to suspect that one day they might wipe out their archives altogether, so I told the writers I worked with to be sure and save copies of their old pieces so that one day, if the time came, they could upload it elsewhere. And I made sure to upload a bunch of my old pieces here on Dreamwidth. At the time I set them to private, as there was no need to have them published in two places.

Well, the time has now come. I was alerted yesterday that BreakPoint had indeed wiped out their archives. So I'll be setting my old pieces to public here. It may take a little time, as there are several of them, but hopefully they'll all be up before too long. As I posted them in 2017, you'll need to go back a few pages if you'd like to see any of them. But this note is not meant to be pushy about getting you to do that! I just wanted to post a sort of official notice that this is their new home.

Hi there!

Long time no post! Hope everyone is doing well. Just popping in to say that The Man Who Invented Christmas  is awesome and you should see it if you possibly can! Here's my review.

Hurray!

 The book is out!

I've been doing publicity for it like crazy.

I'm pooped.

But happy.

I finally got to read the CT review of my book . . . and it's a rave!
litlover12: (TKS4)
. . . Christianity Today has a nice long new review of your forthcoming book, but it's print-only and your copy didn't come in today's mail and the bookstore doesn't have it yet!

ACK!

*runs hysterically in circles*

I hope everyone had a nice Easter!

I've been majorly busy with preparations for my book launch on June 20. I'm trying to get an author website going, but it isn't going well, because, as ever, I am tech-challenged. I did get a Facebook author page set up -- and then I had a bad attack of nerves, because it started to make the whole thing seem so REAL. I remember Leslie Caron saying that when she saw herself onscreen in her first movie, she felt so sick she thought she was coming down with the flu. For the first time, I understand what she meant.

As we writers are prone to feeling like we've never done enough, I thought it might be good for the morale to look back over the year and see just how much I've actually published.

So we have:

My book is available for pre-order!!*

*gulp*

*It doesn't come out till June, but still . . . it's available for pre-order.

Just wanted to thank you all for the nice comments about the book. I confess I chuckled a bit over the comments that "it went so fast!" I guess it must have seemed fast, going by what I said here, but the truth is, I've been working on that book for literally years. It was only after I got the agent and the offer from the publisher that everything really accelerated.

All the more reason I'm thrilled to be done writing it! Of course lots of edits and revisions are before me, but editing is very different from actually having to create the thing.

Good news!

A blessed and joyous Easter to you all! Sorry I haven't been around much lately -- work on the book is sucking up most of my free time these days. But I'm still reading and enjoying your posts.

Here, from my garden, is a little gift for you! :-)

Some articles are (relatively) easy to write; some articles are a bear to write. This one was a bear to write. I'm not sure why -- I guess there was just a lot I wanted to say, and I got anxious about finding the right ways to say it. But I finally, finally, FINALLY got it done, and I hope those of you who are into analysis of all things Star Wars will enjoy it!

(Major spoilers included.)

Speaking of Star Wars, I came across this piece the other day and got a chuckle out of it. Theory #1 is an English major's delight. I caught those missing commas too, and the implication immediately occurred to me. This is what happens when people are careless with their punctuation!

"Oh, you're a writer? Maybe you can give me some advice. I'm interested in becoming a technical writer . . ."

Stop. Please. Just. Stop.

Just popping in for a minute to share a bit of good news: Some of you know I'm writing a book about faith and singleness. (I've been writing it for quite some time, actually, as it's been going rather slowly.) On Monday, I got an agent! She's going to start submitting my proposal to publishers soon.

. . . Which means I have to get busy and get this thing written!!

*pops back out*

Two things, to be precise. One is about My Fair Lady and the other is about the White Collar series finale. I thought some of you might like to read them!

Here's my second Olympic figure skating piece, and here's my review of the new Bob Fosse biography!

Remember that article I was sending to the Atlantic? They didn't take it . . . but First Things did!
litlover12: (TKS4)
Putting the finishing touches on another Atlantic article that I plan to submit tomorrow morning (cross your fingers for me!). It's funny how, whenever I write for them, I get scared. Absolutely freaking terrified. It doesn't happen with other publications, just that one.

Just wanted to show you all what I ordered with the gift card I won in the Book Riot contest!
