Got a musical preferences quiz from [livejournal.com profile] mary_j_59. My results:

***

Upbeat & Conventional

59% Reflective-Complex, 6% Intense-Rebellious, 83% Upbeat-Conventional and 30% Energetic-Rhythmic!

The Upbeat and Conventional dimension expresses predominantly positive emotions, is simple in structure, and is moderately energetic.

The external correlates of the Upbeat and Conventional dimension reveal positive correlations with Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, conservatism, self-perceived physical attractiveness, and athleticism and negative correlations with Openness to New Experiences, social dominance orientation, liberalism, and verbal ability. Our analyses suggest that individuals who enjoy listening to upbeat and conventional music are cheerful, socially outgoing, reliable, enjoy helping others, see themselves as physically attractive, and tend to be relatively conventional.

***

I'm tickled to think that someone who's constantly switching back and forth between the country and classical stations would be labeled "conventional."

I got "reflective and complex"... which, rather hilariously, includs in the description more than once that such a person has a high estimation of his own intelligence... which is totally something I strugglewith...

Yeah, it's fairly spotty with the accuracy. Like the way it suggested I'm probably athletic. Um, no. :-)

I keep seeing this paradigm on way too many personality tests. Liberalism [is correlated with] "social dominance," "verbal ability," "openness to new experiences." Conservatism is associated with jocks, obviously. But, hey, let's give them their due, and say that they are socially competent, fun, agreeable -- life of the party, really. Just intellectual lightweights!

Who comes up with this, and what world do they live with (that overlaps with almost none of the people I have ever met)?

Ooo, this looks really interesting! Now I'm curious to see how it will attempt to categorize my very, ah, eclectic tastes. LOL!
