Here's sportswriter Christine Brennan on the Erin Andrews hotel-room video:

"She doesn't deserve what happened to her, but part of the shtick, seems to me, is being a little bit out there in a way that then are you encouraging the complete nutcase to drill a hole in a room."

And:

"On the Erin Andrews situation, a quick thought for those who have asked: There are hundreds of women covering sports in this country who haven’t had this happen to them. I wish it didn’t happen to Erin, but I also would suggest to her if she asked (and she hasn’t) that she rely on her talent and brains and not succumb to the lowest common denominator in sports media by playing to the frat house."

Wow. Way to blame the victim. Would Brennan also tell a rape victim that she should have been wearing a longer skirt?

As a figure skating fan, I've suffered from Brennan's catty, gossipy reporting for a good many years. (She's almost inescapable in the skating world; even if you try to ignore her stuff, some other fan will usually call your attention to it.) But this takes the cake. Ms. Brennan, you need to stop talking, like, yesterday. Girl-power pep talks ("Be smart, be terrific, be talented!" BARF) aren't going to make up for insinuating that Andrews "encouraged" a sexual assault.

The one true thing Brennan said was that Andrews didn't ask her opinion. That's right, she didn't. So with all due respect, Ms. Brennan, I suggest that you keep your mouth shut until she does.
