I don't know about this, folks . . .

On the plus side, at least there's no sign of Jay-Z in it.

I'll see it. Maybe not until it comes out on Netflix, but I'll see it eventually. Then again, I've never read the original Anna Karenina, only the Quirk Classics steampunk mashup version (which was quite good in its way), so I don't have any real sort of attachment to it.

I don't either -- I read the book, but I don't generally go as crazy over Russian lit as I do over British lit. :-) But the dialogue in that trailer sounded very inane to me, and if the whole movie is like that, it seems like a waste to ditch so much of Tolstoy's dialogue for something out of Writing an Angsty Hollywood Romantic Drama 101.

I'm curious to watch the clip, but I'll stave it off a bit, since I haven't read the original. It's on my list, and I'll just have to bring it further to the front. :D

Hmmm, I don't know. I'm usually wary of non-Russians doing Russian literature; it's not easy to grasp; very different background. Knowing Joe Wright, it'll be visually stunning. It's seems Jude Law can make a very good Karenin (not something I've expected), but there's also Keira... :( The only film I liked her in was Atonement, but here, I'm afraid it'a a role above her acting skills. She's so bad in this trailer. :(

I'm going to see it, though, if only to see Kitty and Levin. Plus it cannot be worse than the Sophie Marceau/Sean Bean version. ;)

I am more and more surprised by movies that get it right, and less and less surprised by the ones that get it wrong.

I propose some new background music (courtesy of Forbidden Broadway).

To the tune of "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe":

Do ya hear that train come round the bend?
It means the tale of Anna is about the end
As I throw myself to my new address
'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk and Kiev Express

-- The Abakan, Tobolsk and Kiev Express

Nosy folks will come from near and far
The passengers will watch me from the dining car
As I'm ground into a bloody mess
'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk and Kiev Express

Here she comes
-- Ooo-Ooo-Ooo-Yo-Heave-Ho
Hey station master raise your flag
-- Ooo-Ooo-Ooo-Yo-Heave-Ho
And send me back to Moscow in a body bag

Then you'll hear that mournful whistle blow
My lingerie will wrap around the wheels below
All the way to old Siber-eeayyyy
'Neith the Abakan
-- 'Neith the Abakan
'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk
-- 'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk
'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk
-- 'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk
'Neith the Abakan, Tobolsk and Kiev Express!
