Seven things meme

It's about time I got around to that meme I got from
sylverwind, like, MONTHS ago. So here we go. She asked me to give my thoughts on libraries, desserts, a favorite outfit, mythical creatures, my love for classic movies, beading, and pet peeves.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
- Libraries: Lately, I'm afraid libraries make me think of late fees. I'm honestly ashamed to tell you how many of those I've accrued. I just can never seem to drag my butt back to the library (or, apparently, even to that incredibly easy "renew-your-books-here" website!).
- Desserts: Love 'em. Love 'em in every shape and form. :-) For a long time my favorite was coconut cream pie, which my grandmother used to make for me when I was a kid. It's more difficult now to pick just one favorite, now that I've been exposed to so very many different ones! But I still have a soft spot for pie, especially cream pies. That's what I asked for at my tenth-anniversary luncheon at work, and got two different kinds (homemade!).
- A favorite outfit: Confession time: I usually pick my jewelry first and then plan my outfit around that. :-D (Once at a beading class, I asked if anyone else did that, and nearly every woman there raised her hand! So at least I'm not alone.) My interest in clothes lags far behind my interest in jewelry, as you can see. Currently, though, I guess I'm partial to a cobalt blue short-sleeved blouse (my favorite color), which I usually wear with black slacks. That's for dress-up. For a more casual outfit, my current favorite is a burgundy top with a V-neck and three-quarter-length sleeves, with blue jeans. I usually wear this with my Charles Dickens necklace. Yes, I have a Charles Dickens necklace. Shut up.
- Mythical creatures: I . . . don't have an awful lot of thoughts on these. I'm not really a major fantasy aficionado. I liked unicorns when I was little, and I like hobbits now. But that's really about as far as it goes.
- Classic movies: Now there's a subject I could go on about all day! At first I got into them simply because my mom was pretty careful about which modern movies we watched, whereas when it came to classic movies, the sky was the limit. (Thank you, Hays Production Code. You truly don't deserve all the grief you get.) So I missed out on a lot of the movies of my generation -- all the Molly Ringwald films and various other coming-of-age flicks and adventure films and horror films and what have you -- but I could recite entire scenes from My Fair Lady by the time I was in junior high. Actually, I think my mom would have let me watch some of those if I'd asked -- she wasn't crazy strict or anything -- but as I got more and more into the classics, I pretty much lost interest in contemporary movies. Nowadays I do watch a lot of current films, but I never really did catch up on those teen movies from the eighties and nineties. But I honestly don't feel like I missed much. Anyway, as I've said before, my favorite movie is Singin' in the Rain. And my favorite stars are Gene Kelly, Jimmy Stewart, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Claude Rains, Jack Lemmon, Deborah Kerr, Ingrid Bergman, and Jean Simmons.
- Beading: A hobby that I dearly love, but don't have a lot of time for these days. I took a few classes and have made some fun jewelry -- just simple stuff, nothing complicated. I'm not a very patient person and get frustrated sometimes when things don't look the way I thought they would, or when I make a mistake or something breaks and I have to redo it. But I still love it, and keep trying to make time for it whenever I can.
- Pet peeves: Have you got about a month? :-) Seems like I have a different pet peeve every day! I'll give you just a few: a computer system at work that (among other things) makes en dashes look like hyphens; "comprise" being used like "compose"; and the substitution of "your's" for "yours" and "it's" for "its." As you can see, a lot of my pet peeves are editorially oriented.

You really didn't miss much.

Date: 2012-07-24 02:31 am (UTC)I KNOW! I DON'T KNOW! The one near me has limited selection and I swear I cannot figure out how they organize their shelves. I haven't been to my childhood library since, well, since I was a child. At that time, I'd read practically everything they had. Maybe I should give that one a try again. Maybe they have more selection now.
But it's good to know you can renew books online. I had no idea.

Hm, some nice things. If my computer catches fire, I'm blaming you.
(Just kidding.)
