I shouldn't let award shows get to me. I know I shouldn't. But I always do.

I nearly went catatonic this morning over the news that Chris Young didn't get any CMA nominations this year . . . and Luke Bryan did. Bryan, you may or may not recall, is the one who sang these immortal lines on his newly award-nominated album:

Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom
Dancin' on the tailgate in a full moon
That kinda thing makes a man go mm-hmm
You're lookin' so good in what's left of those blue jeans
Drip of honey on the moneymaker gotta be
The best buzz I'm ever gonna find . . .

I mean, you just know that somewhere Johnny Cash is weeping with envy because he never came up with that.

Uh...I much prefer Trace Adkins' "honky tonk bdonka donk" or Big and Rich's "save a horse ride a cowboy"....those are more award winning worthy lyrics that that...

I'm watching Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall on my screen, and you've inspired me to look up acceptance speeches. :-)

Adrian Brody's for the Pianist was beautiful and one of my faves. (the way he kissed Halle berry --- OMG!)

What really delights me is that the speeches are all very short! HB simply thanks his director and KH (Katherine Hepburn) then exits. The stage is also so obviously set up as if it were more of a press conference - microphones everywhere!

So, clearly, we really have to refer actors back to their roots - no thanking your mother, etc!

Vivien Leigh does a nice commentary - she'd have to make a speech as long as the movie (Gone With the Wind, oh dear, the longest movie ever!) itself to thank everyone...now that's classy...
