This should be interesting!

Hope Thomas More comes off a bit better than in the book. Of course, when you're seeing things through Cromwell's (admittedly unreliable) eyes, that's difficult to do . . .

I haven't read the books by Hilary Mantel but I did see "A Man for all Seasons", the 1966 movie about Thomas More that shows him as a very positive character ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Man_for_All_Seasons_(1966_film) ).

I LOVE "A Man for All Seasons"!

The Mantel books are very good. At first glance they look like something of an attempt to rehabilitate Cromwell's reputation (and of course some of that is at More's expense) -- but the further you get, the more corrupt you see him becoming. I think it's pretty fascinating the way she handles it.

Me too. They made some excellent historical movies in the '60s, my favourite is "The Lion in Winter". But "A Man for all Seasons" is a very close second. The cast was brilliant and I liked the settings and light very much.

This sounds interesting - I'll put them on my to-read list.
