There's nothing like a common household appliance or machine to make you feel like an idiot.



My car CD player is slowly going berserk. I bought the "Les Miserables" deluxe movie soundtrack (hush now, goldvermilion87). Tried to play it in my car, but it started skipping badly on "One Day More." Cleaned the CD -- no luck. Cleaned the CD player (twice) -- no luck. Took it back and got another one. Put it in and started playing "One Day More," just because that's where I'd left off before. And then THAT CD started skipping!

So what is the deal here? A bad batch of CDs that went to Target, or an incurably bad CD player? (I should mention that something similar happened with a different CD before this, but cleaning the CD did make it better in that case.)

This is dreadful to hear because two of my CDs have been skipping recently, with one scratched beyond repair -- making me think that it must be the player on the fritz! My only consolation before was that it was a silly idea; surely Japan makes indestructible CD players... and mine is too too too otherwise perfect to fail...

Any visible damage on the Les Mis CDs?

May be a really obvious question, but have you tried playing it in another stereo? I had a CD a while ago that refused to play at all in mine, only to work perfectly well in every other stereo in the house. I eventually made a copy of the CD (which was fine in the original stereo), and am now listening to music through my DVD player!

Technology is a wonderful thing...
