They've got my attention
May. 22nd, 2012 08:49 pmTrailer for the new Great Gatsby. The trailer music is ALL wrong -- no version of Gatsby should ever be associated with anything but '20s music; it's just too much a work of its time -- but with any luck that's not the music that will be in the actual movie. The visuals are certainly appealing, and from the lines I could hear, they're sticking pretty faithfully to the text of the book. They've even got the eyes of Dr. T. J. Eckleburg! When I think of all the time we spent in a college English class exhaustively analyzing those eyes . . . though if you asked me now what they signify, I honestly don't think I could tell you.
(The sex scenes I could do without, but that's Hollywood for you.)
And it's always good when Leo DiCaprio gets a role where his eternal boyishness can work for him, rather than against him.
