I've been having some issues with my church lately. My parents have been having some issues with their church as well. So we decided to try Christmas Eve service at a small church a few minutes away.

It stank on ice.

Honestly, it was just awful. I don't mean to be unkind or persnickety (it's supposed to be about God and not our own preferences, after all), but the experience was so bad in every respect -- music, sermon, even the children's lesson -- we sneaked out the back before they were done!

The nice thing was, it made our own churches look a little better. I swear I could almost feel God tapping me on the shoulder and murmuring, "Maybe the situation at ___ isn't quite as desperate as you thought, hmm?"

Well, anyway . . . a very merry Christmas to you all, my friends. I'm blessed and grateful to have you in my life, and I wish you all the best!

Ack! It's a bummer when that happens, especially on a holiday. (But I'm glad perhaps it gave you better perspective on your own churches.)

Merry Christmas!

Oh gosh. Someone else on my friends list is reporting a bad Christmas Eve service, and ours was pretty disappointing as well. What's so hard about singing some pretty carols and reading the Christmas story!?

Anyway, I'm glad it made your church better, and merry Christmas!

I've been to so many services like that where we just left. It was really bad. We were going to go to the Catholic church but it was standing room only. I am not doing that in 4" heels, thanks! So we're going tomorrow instead. (We are considering joining the Catholic Church but I grew up Catholic-lite, so it would be easy for me. David, not really. But it's sort of where I feel like God is poking me at...)

Awww, that's sad. (But at least you were able to sneak out, that's not always possible.)

Merry Christmas! I'm sure we're all happy to have you for a friend, too! :)

I don't mean to be unkind or persnickety (it's supposed to be about God and not our own preferences, after all)

This is what always bothers me when I start trying to find a church around here. I get so caught up in whether or not I feel welcome, or how comfortable I feel with the service. Then I feel guilty for not putting my focus where it should be, and the guilt scares me into giving up looking for a while!

It's good that this experience helped you and your parents appreciate your home churches a bit more. But don't allow that to convince you to settle if you're truly unhappy where you are, either. :)

I hope you had a lovely Christmas yesterday!
