Honorable mention to Fred Astaire and Judy Garland for their entire bodies of work. I couldn't come up with just one favorite performance for either of them.

And a short list of favorite non-singing/non-dancing performances in a movie musical: Jean Hagen in Singin' in the Rain, Eve Arden in Cover Girl, and Edward Everett Horton and Eric Blore in Top Hat.

I hear Gene Kelly is in 'Brigadoon'? Ever seen it? Worth seeing? (There's a new stage version here, which I obviously can't afford, but I see there's a free screening of the old movie version at one of the parks.)

He is indeed! I like the movie, and I think it would be worth going. It's not a perfect movie -- the story's a bit thin, and the scenery is not all it should be (they didn't get to film on location, and had to use a lot of painted backdrops and so forth). But there are some good songs, and the dance numbers are GORGEOUS. Worth seeing at least once, I would say. Have fun if you go!
