Major Gilmore Girls spoilers ahead

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Who saw that ending coming??? Well, apparently, some did, but not me. I must be extremely dense. I'm . . . torn. A lot of these storylines just felt like Amy Sherman-Palladino was repeating herself, and this one does too. And I would have liked to see Rory learn something from her mother's mistakes.

But I guess we dodged a bullet, because holy heck, what if season 7 had ended that way?? WHOLE different ballgame.

Okay, wildly unpopular opinion coming. Brace yourself. I think perhaps Rory should've just married Logan when he asked. Obviously, there were still strong unresolved feelings on both sides. They practically had a marriage going for a while there anyway, and it clearly hurt them both badly to break it off. And the reason Rory broke it off was for the sake of her brilliant career, and we saw how THAT turned out -- or didn't turn out. She wouldn't have missed much. (Sure, she wanted to travel . . . but now she's traveling just to see, guess who, Logan!) I think they could have helped each other grow, instead of regressing like they both did by seeing each other illicitly, and now she would be in a good stable place for her major life event. So yeah, on the whole, I think marriage would have been preferable to this. People on IMDb and elsewhere would probably fight me to the death over such a statement, but this is my LJ and I can say what I want, so there. :-)

(One more wildly unpopular opinion: I liked seeing the Life and Death Brigade again, even though that one scene was really odd and dream-sequency.)

I'm glad they left her love life up in the air again, anyway. But -- again with the repetition -- it looked like they were heading in the Logan = Christopher and Jess = Luke direction. Which makes me sincerely hope we never get a second sequel. All that romantic drama sounds too exhausting.

I did like the Christopher scene and the way it cleverly set up the ending. (And yet I STILL did not see the ending coming. Stupid, stupid, stupid!) And hopefully Rory learned something from THAT scene, anyway. It seemed like she was wishing her father had been more of a presence.

That's all for now -- except that Emily was awesome and Lorelai's story about Richard was awesome and oh, Richard, how I miss you. :-( I'm glad they honored you so well.

Someone I know on Facebook called it "a glorious mess." That about sums it up. The quality was very uneven: Some parts were really good, some were really bad, some were just weird. Emily had a great storyline, Lorelai's was fairly good, Rory's was mostly annoying.

If I were grading it, I think I'd give it a C.

Honestly, I feel like Amy Sherman-Palladino just trolled me. "Let's end with Rory pregnant with Logan's baby! But Logan's marrying someone else! Oh btw Jess is still in love with Rory and he like basically figured out what she should do with her life for her." I'm on team "Rory with none of her previous boyfriends", heh.

At least Luke and Lorelai finally got married. I probably would have revolted if they had ended up splitting up.

That's how I feel too -- trolled. And yeah, I'm annoyed that Rory can never seem to take a major step without Jess spelling it out for her and pushing her into it. How exactly is that female empowerment?

I guess I had pretty low expectations that Rory's story would turn out in any way I approved of, because it never seemed to in the show! She never learns from her mistakes.

Overall I was satisfied-- I kind of appreciated the full-circle thing after that conversation with her dad. I felt that was pretty well done, even if it felt a bit lazy? I think a pregnancy scare at the beginning which helped her turn her life around and get her career back on track would have been better.

Oh yeah, that would have worked! (Lord knows she needed SOMETHING to help her turn her life around! I'm not convinced that having no work to show by the end except for three sample chapters of a memoir is really a turnaround.)

I don't run in GG fandom, so I don't know what the general/accepted views are. But I actually agree on Rory and Logan. I don't know why that would unpopular. First of all, they're both so spoiled and selfish that they deserve each other. Why inflict either one on another unsuspecting Paul or Odette?

And assuming they lasted more than a few months, they very well may have pushed each other to grow up. Or killed one another. Either way, I'd be satisfied.

I accidentally spoiled myself on Ye Big Revelation at the end. My eyes fell on some article as I was wandering around the intertubes. Doesn't anyone do spoiler warnings anymore?! I don't know what my reaction would have been had it just hit me cold.

Part of me hates that I will never know my "pure" reaction. But in a way I'm glad I was prepared. I probably would've screamed when the screen just went black. Last time I did here was on XF years ago. I screamed so loudly my father came running down the stairs to see who was killing me. True story, LOL! Yeah, I get a bit involved in my TV watching.

Ugh! Why DO that on a mini revival and leave things hanging? I suppose it's to leave it open for future reunions or whatever. But they could've done that any number of ways. A bombshell cliffhanger like that is just cruel. I'm glad I am a recent fan and not one who had watched for years and been all invested in it.

Oh, I didn't catch that! It was so late when I finished. I suppose it's a bit lazy and predictable. But it's also realistic. People so often repeat family patterns. They end up doing exactly what their parents did, even after swearing up and down their entire lives, "I'll never do THAT! I'll never be like THEM!" Almost against your will and even when you're consciously, actively working against it, you suddenly find yourself thinking, saying and doing things that imitate your parents. It's startling and disturbing.

If I wasn't a Christian, I'd be tempted to start giving credence to the idea of fate.

I felt so sorry for her here! But I was so glad when she told off those stuck up old bats. Ugh, but I hated them. Can we get an Emily Gilmore On Her Own spinoff? Tho', I do miss her with Richard. Those two actors raised the quality of the show. I haven't seen any interviews, but I think everyone else on the show sensed that as well. These characters could've been such awful, unwatchable caricatures. They made them real people. Heartbreakingly so!

Edward Herrmann must've been really loved? He was ALL over these eps.

The character was very much loved, and by all accounts, the actor was very much loved by the cast and crew. I heard that Kelly Bishop was there, along with his family members, when he died.

I'm glad they took so much time to honor him. I hate those shows where they're like, "Oh, so-and-so died! Oh well! On with the show!"
