I don't mean to be a complete hypocrite. I can be just as starstruck as the next fan. I've been to two National Memorial Day concerts -- to be precise, one concert and one dress rehearsal -- and I will freely admit that the main reason I went was to hear John Schneider sing live. (Most years I watch the concert on TV.) But still, I know that this concert is not about the celebrities, and I wouldn't expect or even want an article all about what my performer of choice wore and how he sounded and how his eyes welled up. Reviews of the whole concert and the performers in general are nice and appropriate. But when Katie Holmes is there to honor a woman whose brother was injured in a war, it's not about Katie Holmes, and I really don't care whether she wore high fashion or whether it was her first reunion with Dianne Weist since their Broadway play.
This day is about something tremendously important. It just doesn't sit well with me to see it made into yet another chapter in The Saga of TomKat.

But you'd think the press could hold off for once.
