Wow. That's annoying. But both are of the unironic damsel in distress variety, so I either expect rather annoying action girl updates (like the new Robin Hood or the stupid looking comedy Your Highness that's coming out) or an even more unironic misogynistic statement...
Because heaven forbid there be actual, complicated, interesting female characters in film. Let alone female main characters...

Well, I adore the Anthony Andrews one -- and the Leslie Howard one, and the musical! -- but I was looking forward to the new one too. As long as they do a really good job, I'm usually happy to see a new adaptation of a classic book.
