Jezebel is on TCM (I love you, Summer Under the Stars!), and my goodness, what an absurd fuss about a red dress! In a lot of movies, I have a good deal of sympathy with the forces of morality and order -- even when I'm clearly supposed to sympathize with the opposing forces -- but this was just nuts. As if the ceiling were going to fall in because a girl wore a red dress to a ball. Watching it in the age of Girls Gone Wild, in particular, it boggles the mind.
I do kind of love the way Henry Fonda grits his teeth and makes her go through with it, though!

Date: 2011-08-04 03:06 am (UTC)How I'd love to scandalize everyone someday by wearing a red wedding dress. YES, SUCH THINGS EXIST! I saw one once in a store display. Everyone who walked by did a double take and just GAPED at it. I only wish I'd had a camera at the time. It was the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen, and exactly the right shade of red. I had no idea wedding dresses existed in anything other than white, which I HATE with a passion.
