Got this from [livejournal.com profile] dreamflower02. When you see this, post some poetry.

This is actually two poems, from George MacDonald's Diary of an Old Soul, which has a short poem for every day of the year. These are the entries for July 15 and 16, which have really resonated with me lately -- especially the last three lines of the second one.

Too eager I must not be to understand.
How should the work the Master goes about
Fit the vague sketch my compasses have planned?
I am his house -- for him to go in and out.
He builds me now -- and if I cannot see
At any time what he is doing with me,
'Tis that he makes the house for me too grand.

The house is not for me -- it is for him.
His royal thoughts require many a stair,
Many a tower, many an outlook fair,
Of which I have no thought, and need no care.
Where I am most perplexed, it may be there
Thou mak'st a secret chamber, holy-dim,
Where thou wilt come to help my deepest prayer.
litlover12: (Cross)
Thou hast not made, or taught me, Lord, to care
For times and seasons -- but this one glad day
Is the blue sapphire clasping all the lights
That flash in the girdle of the year so fair --
When thou wast born a man, because alway
Thou wast and art a man, through all the flights
Of thought, and time, and thousandfold creation's play.
