I won't pretend that "Downton Abbey" was great television (I hear you snickering over there, [livejournal.com profile] goldvermilion87!). But I will say that I'm going to miss Maggie Smith on my television, very, very much. She is never less than a delight.

The one thing I miss about Downton Abbey is the amazing Maggie Smith! She truly is a gift.

Even when the writers gave her kind of silly lines, the way she delivered them was perfection.

I agree. I'm definitly not a Downton Abbey fan (I made it through three episodes and decided it was not my thing) but what I saw of it showed again that Maggie Smith is great in whatever she does. I've been a fan for years, from "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" and that small but lovely part in "The VIPs" to "Death on the Nile", "A Room with a View" and "Keeping Mum".

I saw her on a Carol Burnett show. It was hysterically funny! She totally held her own opposite Carol and especially Tim Conway.

Yes, she is amazing, isn't she? A truly great actress.
