I won't pretend that "Downton Abbey" was great television (I hear you snickering over there, [livejournal.com profile] goldvermilion87!). But I will say that I'm going to miss Maggie Smith on my television, very, very much. She is never less than a delight.

They're giving us an Alec Guinness day AND a Maggie Smith day!

I promised to do this some time ago, for [livejournal.com profile] msantimacassar's meme, but it's taken me quite a while to come up with actors for all the major roles. Jerry Cruncher and Dr. Manette were especially difficult for some reason. But I think I'm finally satisfied. (Left out some of the smaller roles, like Ernest Defarge, Stryver, the Marquis, and The Vengeance. I had to stop somewhere or I'd never get finished. Feel free to offer suggestions for them, though -- or to offer alternate suggestions for anyone I've cast!)

Starting off with the minor players . . .  )

Kyle Chandler AND Maggie Smith for the win! How wonderful! And of course it was the night I skipped watching the Emmys. :-) Got it on the DVR, though, so I can fast forward past all the "Dear Middle America, We hate you all, kindly watch our shows, thanks loads, Sincerely, Hollywood" stuff, and just see Kyle. I'm so, so happy for him -- Maggie too, but she's won before. He's deserved this for so long. YIPPEE!

Update: Aw, this is so sweet (from Zap2it.com): "We're not sure what it sounded like in your home when "Friday Night Lights" star Kyle Chandler won his long-deserved Emmy Award for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series, but the Zap2it offices got loud. Really loud. People climbed on furniture."

See? Everybody loves him! He ought to have had an award long ago just for being so lovable!

I wouldn't call Downton Abbey one of my favorite shows. I probably wouldn't even put it in the top fifty. (Just a little too soap opera-ish for my tastes.) The only reason I have the icon that's on this post is that Maggie Smith is awesome. But dang, people are coming up with such amazing DA artwork these days that I may just load up on DA icons anyhow. Check these out!

Oh, this is cool: Maggie Smith has a supporting actress Emmy nomination for Downton Abbey, and Eileen Atkins has one for Upstairs Downstairs. Talk about your epic battles. I do hope Maggie wins. If not -- well, see icon!

Oh, and for her video clip during the show, if they do those this year: They've got to do the swivel chair scene. They've just GOT to.
