Comment on this post and I will choose six interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean/why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] charleygirl a couple weeks ago, and am just now getting around to it. And I still have yet another meme I'm supposed to do, but I can't remember who gave it to me. I am the world's worst at keeping track of memes. But anyway, now for this one! Here are my interests that she chose.

"The BBC is to broadcast a new series of Death Comes to Pemberley, with Matthew Rhys as Fitzwilliam Darcy and Anna Maxwell Martin as Elizabeth Bennett [sic]."

Seen through Dickensian eyes, this translates to "John Jasper is getting together with Esther Summerson."

Yikes.

Joking aside, though, this sounds very interesting! I liked Death Comes to Pemberley and I like both those actors.

Got this one here. I hope I haven't already done it -- it looks vaguely familiar, or at least some of it does!

1. One book that changed your life?

The Man Born to Be King by Dorothy L. Sayers.

2. One book you have read more than once?

An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott. I was MAD about this book when I was a teenager.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?

Only one? *sniffle* Guess I would have to go with the Bible (New King James Version). Or How to Build a Boat. (Sorry, old joke.)

4. One book that made you laugh?

Jeeves in the Morning by P. G. Wodehouse.

5. One book that made you cry?

A Tangled Web by L. M. Montgomery.

6. One book you wish had been written?

Whatever Dickens would have written after The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

7. One book you wish had never had been written?

Fifty Shades of Grey. I feel like the mere fact that it exists has lowered the national I.Q. about 10 points.

8. One book you are currently reading?

The Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. Yeah, still haven't kept that New Year's resolution yet . . . but we've still got a good portion of the year left!

Consider yourself tagged if you want to do this one!

. . . I was on my way to Phantom.

Majestic Theater

And truthfully, if I got the chance, I'd go again tonight! I never get tired of Phantom. It's like rereading that fairy tale that enthralled you as a child, that still has the power to enthrall you again years later.

And praise be, I also finally, finally got to see the wonderful Mystery of Edwin Drood. Photos and report on that over here!

[livejournal.com profile] msantimacassar  and I have just been discussing how difficult it is to keep track of the not one but two Great Expectations adaptations that are in the works. (While it's wonderful that so many people want to celebrate Dickens's bicentennial next year, some of them apparently forgot that he wrote anything else! Although I hear there's also going to be an Edwin Drood miniseries.)

For those of you who are interested, we're tracking developments over at Dickensblog. But here's the Cliffs Notes version:

Feature film:

Pip -- Jeremy Irvine
Estella -- Holliday Grainger
Miss Havisham -- Helena Bonham Carter
Magwitch -- Ralph Fiennes

Filming will start in October, and the film will be released sometime in 2012.

BBC miniseries:

Pip -- Douglas Booth
Magwitch -- Ray WInstone

Gillian Anderson is in talks for Miss Havisham. Filming starts in July, and the miniseries will air around Christmas on BBC One, and then come to PBS in spring 2012.
