Movie meme

I've been trying to work on some mini-movie reviews, but it's taking forever. In the meantime, have a little meme I just made up! (One or two of you may have seen me playing around with this idea on Twitter).

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Put together a film festival for your favorite actor, actress, or director. Classic or contemporary, whatever you prefer. This film festival should be between 10 and 20 hours long, not counting snack and bathroom breaks! Films can be in any order you choose, chronological or otherwise. Tell us a little something about each film.

I picked Jimmy Stewart for mine.

Remember that top 20 movies list I made once? Remember how I said I might revise it someday? The day has come! There's one movie that's new and that just had to be added, and one old one that, after a couple more viewings, I realized had earned a spot. And so, from last to first . . .

20. An Affair to Remember (1957)
19. The Court Jester (1955)
18. The Sword in the Stone (1963)
17. The Princess Bride (1987)
16. Charade (1963)
15. Les Misérables (2012)
14. The Odd Couple (1968)
13. All about Eve (1950)
12. The Lion in Winter (1968)
11. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
10. The King's Speech (2010)
9. 1776 (1972)
8. Rear Window (1954)
7. The Sound of Music (1965)
6. The Philadelphia Story (1940)
5. Casablanca (1942)
4. Notorious (1946)
3. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
2. My Fair Lady (1964)
1. Singin' in the Rain (1952)

(I still love Shadowlands and The Thin Man, though!)

When I saw some of the comments on my top 20 movie list, it occurred to me: Why not provide some information for those who'd like to know more about the films? So I'm going to give a little blurb and a YouTube clip for each. Hope you guys will enjoy this mini-movie festival, and maybe even get some good Netflix fodder out of it. And don't forget, I'd love to see your film recommendations too. I know there are SO many good movies out there I haven't seen yet.

We'll start with #20 and #19. )

ABC is running a Best in Film special tonight, and I'm posting a list of my 20 favorite movies. The two events are not related. Actually, I had the idea before I heard about the special -- though I'll probably watch it and fume about it, much as I used to watch and fume about the old AFI movie list shows.

I just think it's fun to make lists -- not least because it helps me avoid doing actual work. But it's hard in its own way. I'm still not certain that this list is exactly the way I want it, and a few months from now I may revisit it and do some rearranging. In fact, there's a good chance I'll end up fuming over my OWN list. That seems to be the nature of these things.

I'm not calling this a meme, because I'm not sure whether anyone else is OCD enough to make a list of 20 favorite movies, but you may treat it as one and make your own list if you so desire! Maybe we'll all end up getting some good suggestions from each other.

In order, then, from #20 to #1: )

A meme

Got this one from [livejournal.com profile] birdienl. You ask for a letter of the alphabet, the person gives it to you, and then you have to name ten things you love that begin with that letter.

My letter is T.

1. Tony: My grandpa (on my dad's side). He died ten years ago this April. I still miss him like crazy.

2. three year olds: My older goddaughter is three. It's an adorable age!

3. two year olds: . . . And my younger goddaughter will be two in a couple of months. :-)

4. Teddy Bear: One of my Shelties who died years ago. (I had two others that I loved as much, but their names didn't start with T!)

5. teddy bears: I also love those. My room is practically a shrine to them.

6. "A Tale of Two Cities": The "A" doesn't count. :-) Anyway, you knew I had to get it in there somehow.

7. tulips: One of my favorite flowers. I'm going to have a bumper crop of them this spring, if I can just keep the deer away!

8. tea: I don't love it quite as much as my best friend does, because no other human being on the planet loves it that much, but I do love it, especially the herbal kind.

9. "The Thin Man": A great movie series, especially the first two films. The book was pretty good too.

10. Tara Lipinski: not my absolute favorite skater, but probably somewhere in my top six or seven.

If you want to do the meme, ask me and I'll give you a letter!
