For a while I've suspected something, and now I'm almost certain of it: I no longer have the attention span, the mental energy, or the interest to follow a TV series. Over the past few years I've had friends try to get me into "Foyle's War," "Call the Midwife," "Endeavour," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and I don't know how many more. Usually I'll give it a try, enjoy a few episodes, realize I don't care whether I ever find out what happens, and drift away.

Got this from a Facebook friend. Pretty sure it's one of the best mashups ever.

Best Sherlock ever.

. . . Until the next one, perhaps?

I've got a new piece in The Atlantic. I think (I hope!) that those of you who like Sherlock, Cabin Pressure, Star Trek: Into Darkness, or any combination thereof will like this one!

Also, this is the last day you can vote for my C. S. Lewis essay at Book Riot. Again, just go here and click the Like button. Thanks to those of you who have already voted for me!

FRODO!

And then a bunch of other stuff happened.

No, I'm kidding. Although seeing Frodo was a definite highlight, I really enjoyed the movie as a whole.

Conundrum

I've made a rather interesting discovery. My online friends who are logical and rational love Sherlock Holmes because he's like them. My online friends who are guided by their emotions love Sherlock Holmes because he isn't like them.

Is a puzzlement, as the king of Siam said.

Me -- well, I love Peter Wimsey. :-) Okay, I know the two aren't mutually exclusive (Dorothy L. Sayers was very fond of Holmes, as I recall), but truthfully, I've never gotten much into Holmes at all. I have read some of the stories, but it was long, long ago, which makes me feel a little like the class dunce sometimes when everyone around me is conversing knowledgeably about hounds and dancing men and what not. Perhaps the larger conundrum is how I ended up belonging to such a vast online network of Sherlockians! It wasn't because of the BBC Sherlock -- I met most of my online buddies based on other interests, and before BBC Sherlock was born or thought of. But it was when the show came out that I became aware of just how many Sherlock-loving online buddies (SLOBs? Hee!) I actually had.

Well, Audible.com did recently supply me with a free audio version of "Blue Carbuncle," so perhaps I'll start getting caught up . . .

I DID IT!!!

I guessed Irene's password before Sherlock Holmes did!

What do I win? :-)

My cousin tells me that I made a total Sherlock addict out of her by posting the video below on my Facebook page:

I was very happy to hear it, partly because it's nice to have another Sherlock fan around, and partly because some of my Facebook friends thought I was having some kind of breakdown when they saw the video. (I had written that I was in the same mood as Sherlock. I just meant that I was bored, but some people thought it meant that I literally wanted to shoot the wall.) To have someone enjoy the clip, go check out the show, and have it become her new favorite show, is a much more agreeable reaction than having someone think you're in need of meds.

(And I know I'm mixing a Star Wars icon with a Star Trek post title. Have a heart. It's 8 in the morning and I'm trying to write this before I've even had my coffee.)
